The sanctuary is under the full control of Uganda Wildlife Authority and Rhino fund Uganda, it was established with a great purpose of expanding and protecting the endangered Rhinos, as they grow in population and they get to be introduced to other national parks in Uganda.

The sanctuary takes up a space of 70 square kilometers with a 2 meters’ electric fence that protects the rhinos and other animals that stay here from intruders.

This sanctuary was established in 2005 to relocate back the rhinos and also have a reliable, safe place where they can live. Apparently, Uganda has at least 40 reptile and mammal species such as hippopotamuses, antelopes, crocodiles, monkeys and so many bird species.
